MEET THE ARTISTS
ELAINE LORENZ
Elaine Lorenz was born in the Bronx, NY and was influenced by both the artistic community of New York City and the countryside of the Berkshire Mountains where her family summered. Her parents were landscape painters, gardeners and also ran their own Industrial Design business. Elaine Lorenz majored in sculpture as an undergraduate at Marietta College in Ohio and received an MFA in sculpture from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She worked as an artist in the Point of Sales Display and Graphic Design industries. At the same time she began teaching sculpture in adult education classes, art centers and museum educational programs. Elaine Lorenz is now a tenured professor at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ where she teaches sculpture and ceramic sculpture.
HOWARD NATHENSEN
Howard Nathensen graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and has dedicated his life to the arts. He has taught art at various institutions including Visual Arts Center of NJ, William Paterson University, Kean College, and California State College. His series of paintings entitled “Layers” is his effort to represent Nature and the world around him as form and color, overlapping and intermingled. Perceptions of reality in the imagery in these paintings are primarily his, however he is very aware of and hopeful that the viewer will find their own associations and apply that as the meaning they take away with them. He is also very involved the in the painting process itself, such as staining acrylic paint into raw canvas and drawing on the surface with oil pastels.
