HOWARD NATHENSEN

Howard Nathensen graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and has dedicated his life to the arts. He has taught art at various institutions including Visual Arts Center of NJ, William Paterson University, Kean College, and California State College. His series of paintings entitled “Layers” is his effort to represent Nature and the world around him as form and color, overlapping and intermingled. Perceptions of reality in the imagery in these paintings are primarily his, however he is very aware of and hopeful that the viewer will find their own associations and apply that as the meaning they take away with them. He is also very involved the in the painting process itself, such as staining acrylic paint into raw canvas and drawing on the surface with oil pastels.
